Absentee Voting in Connecticut

Anyone living in Connecticut with a physical disability that prevents them from going in person to their polling place is eligible to vote absentee. This includes both people living at home or in health care facilities. To receive an absentee ballot, you (or your designee) must complete and fill out a brief, one-page application and return it to your Town Clerk. The Town Clerk will then check the application against voter registration records and mail you a ballot packet that contains both an outer and inner envelope.

Closer to election day, the Office of the Secretary of State will send the ballot (either paper or via email). If you have opted for an email version, it must be printed out to be returned in the ballot packet. Ballots can be mailed or dropped off in person by your designee.

You can designate someone to assist you with the absentee application and the ballot. Your designee can be a member of your immediate family or another person, as long as they are over the age of 18. Your designee will have to provide their name, address and signature. It is better to fill out the absentee ballot application in advance, as the ballot for a general election is mailed out 31 days before the election. Your ballot must be received before the close of polls on the day of the election to be counted. Any ballot received after election day is not counted.
